25 Nov – Two of Disney's live action fantasy films have been set for 2015 and 2016, Disney's studio announced Friday. Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska will reprise their roles as the Mad Hatter and Alice, respectively, in the sequel that will be based on Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking Glass". However, "Alice in Wonderland" director Tim Burton won't return to the director's seat for the sequel, and it is instead being replaced by James Bobin, who co-created "Flight of the Conchords" and directed 2011's "The Muppets." The script will still be written by "Wonderland" writer Linda Woolverton, who had also written classics like "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King".
"The Jungle Book" will also be having their live action adaptation, which already has a set date of October 9, 2015 and will be directed by Jon Favreau who had directed the "Iron Man" films before. "Alice in Wonderland 2", on the other hand, has a set release date of May 27, 2016. As we approach the end of 2013, studios are already booking their 2016 calendar. Other films scheduled for three years from now include "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" (June 10), "Finding Dory" (June 17), "How To Train Your Dragon 3", "Independence Day 2" (July 1), and "Avatar 2" (December).
