Winners of the Yahoo-MAS Cili Padi Awards and the judges.

26 Nov – The Yahoo-MAS Cili Padi Awards 2013 has finally concluded, and the biggest winner is mechanical engineer student Muhammad Redha Bin Ampuani's entry titled "Accepted".

"Accepted" is about a young man's exhilaration when his young lady accepts his proposal, but the film distinguishes itself from convention but playing out in reverse. The short film was filmed using a single Canon 5D Mark II camera within the timespan of three days. For his triumph, Muhammad Redha took home the prize of RM 20,000 and an internship at KRU Studios.

Muhammad Redha, 21, explained that the inspiration for his short film came about after watching Coldplay's music videos, and he wanted to experiment with slow-motion effects and the concept of telling a story that begins from the end.

Muhammad Redha and his partner are overjoyed to win the first prize for "Accepted".

Coming in at second and third places are "Sly" and "Tiger" respectively. Both films revolve around the theme of preserving Earth's flora and fauna with "Sly" presenting a "what if" scenario with men in animal masks destroying a home while "Tiger" shows a girl being ridiculed for drawing a "dog with stripes", which turned out to be the now extinct Tasmanian tiger. The teams took home RM 12,000 and RM 8,000 in cash respectively.

Toh Jia Voon, Chia Sheng Wei, Ong Jun Tien and Cheng Wei Heng accepting the second runner-up prize for "Tiger".

According to Marc Lourdes, Country Editor of Yahoo Malaysia, they were only expecting 30 entries at most, but as it turns out, 264 entries were submitted, although only 163 were eligible. He added that based on the overwhelming response, Yahoo may turn the short film competition into an annual event.

The top three films will be aired in TGV Cinemas nationwide for three weeks.
