Baymax opens Tokyo Film Fest

25 Oct – The annual Tokyo International Film Festival this year is officially on, following the grand world premiere of Disney's "Big Hero 6" and with guests from the showbiz industry from all over the world gracing the red carpet.

With a special nod towards animation this year, the opening film "Big Hero 6" was chosen to kick-start the festival due to its significant Japanese elements. The film is retitled as "Baymax" in Japan.

Among the guests of the evening were Japanese animator Hideaki Anno, Disney's principal creative advisor John Lasseter, executive vice president Andrew Millstein, along with "Big Hero 6" directors Don Hall and Chris Williams, who were joined by the robotic character from the film, Baymax.

Also at the red carpet were "Guardians Of The Galaxy" director James Gunn; the head of the jury judging for this year's competition section of the festival.

Director of the popular Indonesian action feature "The Raid", Gareth Evans, also attended the festival as his movie is scheduled for a special screening during the festival.

Filmmakers from the competition section and their cast were also invited to the opening event, where the Malaysian title "The River Of Exploding Durians" was represented by filmmaker Edmund Yeo and his cast.

Making an unexpected appearance on the rain drenched red carpet at the Roppongi Hills Arena were Princess Takamado and Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Popular Japanese boyband Arashi made a surprise appearance at the festival grounds as ambassadors of this year's event. Lead actor from the popular Korean drama "My Love From The Star", Kim Soo-Hyun also surprised fans at the event.

The Tokyo International Film Festival will run until 31 October 2014 with expected guests such as filmmaker Tim Burton, bollywood star Aamir Khan and more to attend.
