29 Aug – Malaysia is hosting its first ever KL Converge 2014, to be held from 17 to 19 September at Kuala Lumpur City Convention Centre (KLCC).

Steve Sidwell, a renowned arranger and composer who has worked on numerous blockbuster movies and commercials, will be joining directors from LucasFilm and Prime Focus Animation VFX as part of the special guests for the event.

In this digital era, everybody is moving from traditional media to online sources when looking for both information and entertainment. Malaysia too is moving more towards digital content. However, there is still a lack of local talent pool to provide contents to the local digital entertainment industry.

With that in mind, Malaysia aims to find local content makers and to encourage "local industry players to grab opportunities for networking". It also aims to become the digital media and communications hub in Asean, making the country's digital contents not only appealing to locals but also to a global audience.

As reported by Bernama, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chairman Datuk Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi said during the media briefing session for KL Converge 2014 yesterday that the event is the first of its kind to be organised in Asia.

MCMC anticipates more than 20,000 visitors especially as India and 9 Asean countries are confirmed to take part in the event.

MCMC will also be releasing Malaysian Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) in 12-months' time and this event the perfect platform for it to get started.
