15 Dec – Malaysian martial arts actress Michelle Yeoh might do tons of stunts in her films but she will never choose a motorcycle as her choice of transportation. The 52-year-old actress reveals so in an interview with The Phnom Penh Post, during her visit to Cambodia recently, where she was present to shoot part of a documentary on road safety as well as to raise awareness about helmet use. While many may seem to not take the crisis seriously, Michelle says it is only because they do not understand the gravity of it. "It's one of the top five killers. And the rest are all diseases. This is the only one that is human-made in a sense." Deaths of 671,000 people are recorded every year in the Asia-Pacific region, half of the global toll, due to their neglect on road safety. Which was why when Michelle was asked to be the ambassador, she did not hesitate to say yes.
With her celebrity status, she hopes to shed light on the issue. "It's like with any cause, when you recognise the face, you just stop that little second to listen a little bit more, because you know who that person is. And then once you have a message and you can get that across to them, then they get it, then they understand why you were so passionate about it." When asked if she would ever consider making a dramatic film on road safety, Michelle voiced her concern that that might not be an easy task. Michelle is currently working on the sequel to her 2000 film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", which is entitled "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II: The Green Destiny", set for release in August 2015.
