26 Feb – It has been a slow week for movies, and as a result, Malaysia, Singapore and the U.S. weekend box office takings from 21 to 23 February didn't really change when it came to the movie that took the top spot, which was "The Lego Movie" and "Journey". However, ambitious action-fantasy flick "Pompeii", which stars "Game Of Thrones" cast member Kit Harington, managed to open in second place in Malaysia and Singapore's weekend box office, and in third place for the U.S. "Pompeii" is about a slave-turned-gladiator, who finds himself in a race against time to save his true love, who has been betrothed to a corrupt Roman Senator, when Mount Vesuvius erupts. The film also stars Emily Browning of "Sucker Punch".
In Malaysia, "RoboCop" fell one spot to third place after "Pompeii". Popular Malaysian Chinese epic "The Journey" still remained the top movie for the weekend, and is now one of the highest grossing Malaysian films to date. Rounding up to top three in Singapore is "The Monuments Men", directed by and starring George Clooney. Other new movies that opened in Malaysia are "The Monuments Men", "Philomena", "Snowpiercer", "Sejoli: Misi Cantas Cinta", "Beijing Love Story", "Saving Mr. Banks", "Bramman" and "Venmegam". Other new movies that opened in Singapore are "3AM Part 2", "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues", "Hunter x Hunter", "Girl In The Sunny Place", "All Is Lost", "Bramman", "Highway", and "Aaha Kalyanam".
