14 Jul – It is official, Entertainment One has set Steven Spielberg's film live-action adaptation from Children's book "The Big Friendly Giant" by Roald Dahl to release in UK on 22 July 2016, as reported by Variety. "The Big Friendly Giant" short for "The BFG" was published in1982 written by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake. The book tells the story of a young girl named Sophie who was taken away by the BFG, the world's only friendly giant to his home in Giant Country. The two became friends and set off on a journey to capture the man-eating giants who have been disturbing the human world. An animated film of the "The BFG" was released in 1989 which was directed and produced by Brian Cosgrove of the Cosgrove Hall Films, one of the major producer of children's television and animated programmes
The upcoming film will be penned by "E.T" screenwriter, Melissa Mathison with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall to act as the producers. Mathison and Kennedy previously work with Spielberg on 1982 film "E.T The Extraterrestrial". The film will be released on 1 July 2016 in U.S and distributed worldwide by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. "A story that sprang from the imagination of this proud son from Wales," Spielberg said. "We at DreamWorks Studios hope our film will add to Roald Dahl's prolific legacy of entertainment."
