5 Apr – Zac Efron's life may be in the rut right now, following his recent drug scandal, but the actor's career is still going strong as he is reported to produce and star in a new adaptation of John Grisham's "The Associate". The Hollywood Reporter reported that the 26-year-old actor would produce the film via his Ninja's Runnin Wild banner ("That Awkward Moment") together with Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher ("Divergent") via Red Wagon Entertainment. Efron would play Kyle McAvoy, an idealistic graduate of Yale Law School who is blackmailed by a mysterious man to accept a position at the world's largest law firm in order to deliver to the man crucial information the people he represents need. This is not the first we have heard about a film adaptation for "The Associate". Shortly after the legal thriller was released in 2009, Paramount wanted to turn it into a film with Shia LaBeouf attached to star, but he has since dropped out, leaving the "High School Musical" star to take his place. This time, sources say that the producers are looking to hire a writer before pitching the project to studios. "The Associate" is Grisham's 21st novel and the seventh novel to be adapted to film. Previous adaptations of Grisham's books include "The Firm", "The Pelican Brief", The Client", "A Time To Kill", "The Rainmaker" and "The Runaway".
