"Birdman" wins Best Picture Oscar

"Birdman" wins Best Picture while Eddie Redmayne wins Best Actor and Julianne Moore wins Best Actress.

23 Feb – Alejandro González Iñárritu's "Birdman" emerged as the big winner of the 87th Academy Awards with Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography, while the Best Actor win went to Eddie Redmayne for "The Theory of Everything" and Best Actress to Julianne Moore for "Still Alice".

Other big winners were, "The Grand Budapest Hotel" which took home four Oscars for Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Original Score and Best Makeup and Hairstyling; and "Whiplash" which won three Oscars – Best Supporting Actor for J.K. Simmons, Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing.

The Best Supporting Actress award went to Patricia Arquette for "Boyhood" and the Best Animated Film award went to Disney's "Big Hero 6".

Perhaps the most impact-ful acceptance speech was by Graham Moore, "The Imitation Game" for his Best Adapted Screenplay win, not because it is the movie's first and only Oscar, but because Moore revealed during his speech that he had tried to kill himself once due to his sexual orientation, but then overcame it at some point of his life to finally win an Oscar. Moore's touching speech had gotten him a standing ovation.

The star-studded ceremony was hosted by "Gone Girl" actor Neil Patrick Harris, who performed the cheeky opening number at the 87th Academy Award with "Pitch Perfect" star Anna Kendrick and "School of Rock" star Jack Black.

The other performers for the event comprised of Rita Ora who sang "Grateful" from "Beyond the Lights", John Legend and Common for "Glory" from "Selma" and Lady Gaga with her beautiful tribute to "The Sound of Music".
