18 June – Looks like the wedding bells will not be ringing for Oscar winners Sean Penn and Charlize Theron after all. Though they have reportedly gotten engaged last year and even planned to wed in South Africa, recent update reveals that the engagement is over. The 39-year-old "Mad Max: Fury Road" star is the one who decided to end things with the 54-year-old actor-turned-director, according to US Weekly. It seems like the magic has worn off for the Hollywood lovebirds and Theron decided to call it quits following their recent trip to the Cannes Film Festival. The high-profile couple started dating back in December 2013, after 20 long years of being friends as Theron revealed in the recent May issue of Esquire. They had gotten secretly engaged in Paris about a year later.
They were often photographed together on the red carpets and there were even talks of Penn adopting Theron's three-year-old son, Jackson. The exact date of the split is not known, and neither side has spoken up about the reason thus far. Theron will be seen next in "Dark Places", after a successful recent stint with the 2015 "Mad Max", which made USD334.8 million worldwide against its USD150 million budget. Penn starred in last March's "The Gunman", which did not receive a glowing review and made only USD10.6 million against its USD40 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo stats. The recently broken up couple are currently working on "The Last Face", with Theron starring and Penn directing. (Photo source: Celebuzz)
