24 Mar - Local superhero film "Cicakman 3" has managed to collect RM2.5 million domestically within the first 10 days of its local release on 12 March 2015. Managing to do well at cinemas despite competition from other Hollywood releases like "Cinderella" and "Chappie", Harian Metro reports that the executive producer of Grand Brilliance, Tengku Iesta Tengku Alaudin said that this shows that local audiences still support local productions. "We are glad because the film (collection) showed a boost the second week of release. It seemed that the performance of local films at the local box office was declining slowly, but this year is starting to proof otherwise with a positive outlook." said Tengku Iesta in the article. The first "Cicakman" movie had grossed RM6.7 million and the sequel, "Cicakman 2: Planet Hitam" grossed RM2.8 million.
Tengku Iesta adds that he hopes the film will continue to do well in the upcoming weeks. "We do realise that the movie will be competing with new releases this week (Thursday), but we hope that "Cicakman 3" will still find a place in the audience's hearts." Directed by Yusry Abdul Halim and Ghaz Abu Bakar, the third instalment of the local superhero franchise stars Zizan Razak, Lisa Surihani and Fizz Fairuz. The movie is a joint-production between KRU Studios, Astro Shaw and Grand Brilliance. In other related news, KRU Studios Executive Producer, Norman Abdul Halim, revealed that the movie has received an offer from Paris to be screened in the cinemas there; aside from being shown in Thailand, Singapore and Brunei. "We received requests from Singapore and Brunei as well as France and Thailand for the previous "Cicakman" movie. We have also received requests for this latest movie but nothing is set in stone yet," said Norman to Cinema Online during the premiere of "Cicakman 3" early this month.
