3 Jun – Dwayne Johnson is back to rock the big screen, this time as the lead in Brad Peyton-directed disaster movie, "San Andreas". The earthquake-themed movie was anything but a disaster as it shakes up last weekend's box office. Opening at number one with a worldwide gross of USD54.6 million, based on Box Office Mojo stats, this makes it Dwayne Johnson's biggest opener as a top-billed actor. Holding on fast to number two is "Pitch Perfect 2". The a cappella sequel is not budging from its spot on the chart since the previous weekend, managing to rake up another USD14.8 million. Disney's "Tomorrowland", however, sees a bleak future as it falls from the first spot down to third last weekend with its USD14.3 million global gross.
"San Andreas" also shook Malaysian box office last weekend, debuting at number one while another new release, Tamil movie "Masss", took second place. Melissa McCarthy's comedy, "Spy", slipped down two places to number three. Over in Singapore, the box office also felt the aftershock of "San Andreas" as it opened at number one. Last week's conqueror, "Tomorrowland", had to settle for number two. "Spy" makes no move from the third spot, securing it once again for last weekend. Other new releases in Malaysia last weekend are "Gamatisme", "Survivor", "Man Up", "Oh! La La", "Gaddar: The Traitor" and "When Geek Meets Serial Killer". Singapore's new movies for last weekend include "Masss", "Make Me Shudder 3", "Imprisoned", "Red Amnesia", "A Royal Night Out" and "Good Kill".
