"Expendables 4" may film in China

China could be the main filming location for the next "The Expendables" movie.

12 Oct – Despite the latest sequel in "The Expendables" franchise making a lackluster collection, Nu Image and Millennium are going ahead with their plans for "The Expendables 4".

This time around, China just may be the filming location for the upcoming action movie, according to Variety, as Nu Image and Millennium have struck a deal with Max Screen Film Distribution and Steven Paul's SP International Pictures on behalf of SSXH Beijing.

Production on the movie, with a budget of more than USD100 million, is expected to begin sometime next year. Though currently there are no director and cast attached to the project.

It is not yet known whether the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronda Rousey will be reprising their roles but it is expected that the movie will still go by its all-action star formula.

Last year's "The Expendables 3" made a domestic gross of USD39 million in the US, based on Box Office Mojo stats, a comparatively lower collection when put side by side with its predecessors 2010's "The Expendables" and 2012's "The Expendables 2", which made USD103 million and USD85 million each domestically.

However, the third movie is saved by its international audiences (mostly by China where the movie made USD78 million) as worldwide it still managed to gross USD206 million, only slightly lower than the USD274 million worldwide gross of the first movie and USD305 million of the second movie.

"The Expendables 4" is expected to be released in 2017.
