5 May – Malaysian film "Lelaki Harapan Dunia" (Men Who Save the World) has been honoured the Crystal Simorogh Special Jury Prize of the Eastern Panorama section at the 33rd Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran, Iran. The film festival was held on 2 May, where "Lelaki Harapan Dunia" competed with 14 other films in the Eastern Panaroma section (Asian and Islamic countries). Director Liew Seng Tat received the award at the ceremony, which has the participation of over 200 filmmakers from 80 countries. Amongst the renowned guests at the festival were Abbas Kiarostami, Ann Hui, Stanley Tong, Negar Javaherian and Krzysztof Zanussi. Despite having received bad criticisms among the locals due to religious sensitivity, the film has been nominated in various international film festivals. "There will always be praises and criticisms," said Liew as quoted by Asia One. "As a filmmaker, I embrace both. It is a way for me to keep improving my craft."
