4 Feb – Malaysian fans who have been waiting for actors Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan to heat up the screen in the movie adaptation of "Fifty Shades of Grey" are in for disappointment. Local distributor United International Pictures had originally slated the movie for a 12 February 2015 release, but have just confirmed that the movie is not coming to Malaysia after all. Not so surprising considering its risqué elements. "Fifty Shades of Grey" follows the life of Anastasia "Ana" Steele who falls for the wealthy Christian Grey, and soon discovers – and partakes in – Mr. Grey's deep, dark secrets. The erotic romance movie received an R rating from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) last month, which is still less restrictive compared to the recent 18 rating from the British Board of Film Classification. This means while those under the age of 18 will still get to see the movie in North Americans cinemas provided they are accompanied by adults and only those above the age of 18 will get to see the movie in the UK, no one in Malaysia (regardless of age) will be watching the movie on the big screen. Singapore is still awaiting its official rating for the movie, but a R21 rating is expected, where only those whom are 21-years-old and above are permitted to watch the movie at the cinemas. "Fifty Shades of Grey" will premiere as a Berlinale Special Gala at the Berlin Film Festival on 11 February and will be released in North American cinemas on 13 February 2015.
