18 Aug – Not long after "Resident Evil" fans received the good news that actress Ali Larter will be returning as Claire Redfield in the upcoming sixth movie, now fans receive bad news that this is undoubtedly the last instalment in the long-running franchise. Titled "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter", looks like this is literally the final chapter for the movie series as confirmed by Larter herself. "I know it is," the actress replied, when asked during an interview with IGN on whether the movie will really be the last of the "Resident Evil" movies. Larter reprises her role as Redfield for the third time, alongside Milla Jovovich's protagonist Alice and Li Bingbing's Ada Wong, with Jovovich's husband Paul W. S. Anderson returning as the director. The "Resident Evil" series is currently the highest-grossing movie franchise that is based on a video game. The last release alone, 2012's "Resident Evil: Retribution", collected USD4.2 million in Malaysia and USD2.1 in Singapore, contributing to its total gross of USD240 million worldwide. The franchise to date has made over USD915 million at the global box office. Previously slated for release in 2016, "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is now expected to open in North American cinemas on 27 January 2017.
