17 Nov – After breaking records left and right, "Spectre" proves it is here to stay as the 24th movie in the long-running espionage franchise held on to its number one spot at the U.S., Malaysia and Singapore weekend box office for 12 to 15 November 2015. Starring suave spy Bond, James Bond – portrayed by Daniel Craig, "Spectre" took in another USD33.6 million at the U.S. box office last weekend, based on Box Office Mojo stats. Directed by Sam Mendes ("Skyfall") and also starring Lea Seydoux, Christoph Waltz, Dave Bautista, Monica Bellucci and more, the movie has managed to collect USD542.8 million worldwide, already making back its USD245 million budget. Still sticking itself for the second week at the second spot is 3D animated, "The Peanuts Movie". The comedy movie added in another USD24 million to its piggy bank last weekend, giving it a total of USD90.2 million gross worldwide. The Steve Martino movie, which is an adaptation of Charles M. Schulz's comic strips "Peanuts", is close to making back its USD99 million budget. It is set to make more once the movie opens in countries such as Malaysia and Singapore this December. "Love the Coopers" made its debut last weekend to the tune of USD8.3 million. Jessie Nelson directs the Christmas comedy starring the likes of Alan Arkin, Diane Keaton, Ed Helms, Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde and more. The movie, too, will only open in Malaysia and Singapore next month in time for the holiday season.
Malaysia's weekend box office is conquered by newcomers, though "Spectre" still held on tight to number one. Opening at number two was Tamil movie "Vedalam", a Siva-directed movie starring Ajith Kumar. Hong Kong movie "Return of the Cuckoo", a movie adaptation that continues the story of the same name TVB series from 15 years ago, opened at number three. "Spectre" enjoyed its second week at the top of Singapore's box office for last weekend. Taiwanese movie "Our Times" held on to number two while Christopher Landon's "Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse" made its debut at number three. Malaysia's new releases for last weekend include "Thoongavanam", "Ghost Ship", "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo", "The Bride", "Find My Dad" and "Biasan". Other movies that opened in Singapore last weekend are "Legend", "Return of the Cuckoo", "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo", "Vedalam" and "Thoonga Vanam".
