Two live-action "Tinkerbell" in the works

Reese Witherspoon is the latest to join the live-action "Tinkerbell" craze.

23 May – What started as a character previously portrayed by a miniature spotlight on stage has become arguably the most famous fairy in the world after Disney introduced Tinkerbell as a tiny blonde in green in 1953 animated film, "Peter Pan".

Long after her magical dust has settled, Tink's adventures continue through various films based on the mischievous fairy. The latest to join the lineup is Disney, according to The Hollywood Reporter, with Reese Witherspoon set to star as the lead.

The "Wild" star is reportedly replacing "Pitch Perfect 2" actor-director Elizabeth Banks, who was previously attached to lead the project. "Finding Dory" writer Victoria Strouse is set to pen the script.

This will be the second live-action film currently in the works based on the tiny fairy, another one starring "Tammy" actress Melissa McCarthy was announced late last year; "Night at the Museum" director Shawn Levy is directing a script written by "Bad Neighbours" writer Nicholas Stoller.

Both ladies currently have movies playing in theatres – Witherspoon as a cop in buddy comedy "Hot Pursuit" and McCarthy as a secret agent in action comedy "Spy".
