Vin Diesel announces release date for "Furious 8"

The eighth "Fast and Furious" drifts onto the big screen in 2017.

24 Apr – Universal Pictures made some big announcement at the recent CinemaCon but what got the engines roaring, so to speak, is the announcement of the "Fast and Furious 8" release date.

Lead star Vin Diesel took to the stage to bid farewell to the late Paul Walker, who he starred alongside with in the drag race franchise, before announcing that the eighth instalment of "Fast and Furious" is currently in the making at Universal.

"We're gonna make the best movie you've ever seen," said the 47-year-old as quoted by US Weekly.

Set for release in North America on 14 April 2017, there are no words yet on who will be boarding the project this time around. However, a new movie poster reveals Dominic Toretto is heading to the Big Apple as it features New York City's Empire State Building, captioned "New City Even Vengeance".

The recently released "Fast and Furious 7" is Universal's first billion dollar movie and holds the record as the fastest movie of all time to race pass the USD1 billion mark.

Meanwhile, Universal has set 10 February 2017 and 9 February 2018 for "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed" releases, respectively. It was recently reported that the husband of EL James, author of the erotic trilogy, will be penning the upcoming sequel.
