28 Apr – The American version of Japanese movie "Death Note" has long been in the making, but it could never land the right director. However, recent development shows that Warner Bros has found its right man in 2014's "The Guest" director, Adam Wingard, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Wingard will be taking on the project of adapting an American live-action version of popular Japanese manga, "Death Note". It was previously made into a two-part Japanese live-action film in 2006, "Death Note" and "Death Note: The Last Name", which also spawned a 2008 spin-off, "L: Change the World".
The manga follows a student named Light Yagami, who discovers a supernatural notebook that kills anyone whose name is written in it. Light decides to use it to rid the world of evil, turning into a serial killer by the name of "Kira". His works come to the attention of a reclusive detective, L. The two race against each other to reveal the other's identity. Wingard, whose forte has always been horror films, also has the upcoming "The Woods" to work on next for Lionsgate. The production is expected to begin in spring.
