4 Feb – MBO Cinemas located at The Spring Shopping Mall in Kuching has recently been given an official makeover. "We wish to give the best in movie entertainment to the people of Sarawak and also visitors from Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia as well as foreign tourists visiting Kuching," said MBO Cinemas Operations Director Mariam Yazmin El-Bacha. The eight-screen cinema has a seating capacity of 1,558 seats – with the largest hall able to accommodate almost 350 patrons – and features Sarawak's first and only premier hall, which has recliner seats and an exclusive lounge. There are also food and beverage offered.
Hall 5 of the cinema is equipped with the Auro 3D sound system as well as the widest screen in Sarawak. Apart from this cinema, the exclusive sound system is also only available in one hall each at MBO Imago Mall-KK, MBO Subang Parade, MBO KL Festival City and MBO KSL, Johor Bahru. MBO has also introduced its first cinema café, Cafecito. Located at the main lobby, the café provides drinks, cakes and snacks to movie patrons.
With wood as the main theme, the cinema design respects the essential qualities of the Land of the Hornbills. During the makeover's recent launch, patrons were treated to performances that include comedy queen Joanne Kam Poh Poh stand-up show, street dance performance, fun with Hitz.fm emcees Kiyoshi and Natasha, as well as special treats such as Free AllStar memberships, gift voucher giveaways, games, lucky draw plus Cosplay appearance by Iron Man, Ant-Man and Captain America cosplay characters. MBO Cinemas currently has 26 locations and 191 screens nationwide, with plans to expand to two more locations this year.
