"Ah Boys to Men" actor, Noah Yap jailed for 9 months


Rising star, Noah Yap has been put behind bars in the army's equivalent of prison.

4 Mar – Singapore's very own Noah Yap from "Ah Boys to Men" has been detained in Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) detention barracks on 2 March 2016 for consuming cannabis, according to Today Online.

The YouTube star who was serving Singapore's National Service holding the rank of Lance-Corporal was sentenced under Section 8(b)(ii) of the Misuse of Drugs Act as sentenced by the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) at the SAF Court Martial Centre.

A spokesman said, "The Singapore Armed Forces adopts a zero-tolerance approach towards drug abuse. Servicemen found abusing drugs will be disciplined and rehabilitated."

Yap enlisted in May 2014 and was part of the SAF Music and Drama Company at the time of the offences. Those found guilty for the first time can be jailed between 9-15 months and repeat offenders can be jailed and caned.

The 22-year-old who is represented by Fly Entertainment seized his big break as I.P. Man in Jack Neo's "Ah Boys to Men" series and "The Lion Men".

The Straits Times reported that Fly Entertainment have not been able to contact Noah and are trying to get in touch with his family.

Noah Yap has a strong fan base of 75,000 subscribers and 6.7 million views for his YouTube page.
