12 Feb – Popular local animated TV series, "BoBoiBoy" is finally getting the big screen treatment this 3 March 2016 with more movies already in the works! The creator of "BoBoiBoy" is Malaysian animation content developer, Animonsta Studios, and around 60 people had worked on adapting the series for the big screen since 3 years ago with a budget of RM5 million. Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Animonsta Studios, Nizam Razak says that his team are hopeful that "BoBoiBoy: The Movie" will be able to gross RM25 million from 80 local cinemas, and over 100 cinemas in Indonesia (13 April 2016) and Brunei (3 March 2016), when the movie makes its cinematic debut. This doesn't seem too far-fetched for Animonsta, as after all, the franchise has built itself a strong fan base since 2011 in over 44 countries for which Animonsta currently syndicates its "BoBoiBoy" TV series to. Nizam adds that Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia have also shown interest in the movie, and Animonsta are waiting for the 'greenlight' for it to be shown. "BoBoiBoy: The Movie" has also received invites from several film festivals. Among them is the Tokyo Anime Award Festival taking place next month which unfortunately the team had to decline due to the movie not being completely ready before the festival's submission deadline. However, Nizam is confident that the movie will appeal to regional audiences greatly, especially since popular Malaysian pop punk band, Bunkface and Indonesia's revered rock band, D'Masiv, are contributing their songs, "Masih di Sini" and "Di Bawah Langit Yang Sama", respectively, for the animation's official soundtrack.
The "BoBoiBoy" hype will then continue on at the new Movie Animation Park Studios in Perak, targeted to open between this May to June, as it will be housing a "BoBoiBoy" themed area with three attractions. "There will be a 4D adventure like the 4D "Shrek" attraction at Universal Studios Singapore, a "BoBoiBoy" Hero Academy where they can interact with the characters and Kokotiam, a popular hangout spot for BoBoiBoy in the series where there's shops like Pak Aba's Cocoa Shop and merchandise stalls," said Nizam. As for more "BoBoiBoy" movies, Nizam says fans can expect for more pretty soon, as Animonsta is definitely planning for the upcoming movie to be the first of a planned trilogy. "There are definitely two more movie ideas that we have for "BoBoiBoy", it's just that we're not sure which one would come first." Catch "BoBoiBoy: The Movie" in cinemas this 3 March 2016.
