14 Jun – Actor-director Bront Palarae's "Dawn Raid: The Hands That Rattled The Queen" is one of the five Malaysian projects selected for the 2016 Project Spotlight at Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF). Project Spotlight, which focuses on selected Asian countries since 2008, this year has chosen to focus on Malaysia, as revealed on NAFF's official website. With the cooperation of National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), the five projects from the country were selected for their "creativity, genre and production-based evaluation by the NAFF's respected committees". Aside from Bront's corporate-thriller film, other projects that have been chosen are "XX RAY III" by director-screenwriter Aziz M.Osman, "Sitora the Weretiger" by internationally-acclaimed young filmmaker Diffan Sina Norman, "Run Adam Run" by Yaya Abu Bakar, which highlights the issue of child abduction and "Vox" by Yok Lung Lai, a mystery thriller focused on technology. Next month, the selected filmmakers will get to meet with Korean investors and distributors as well the international partners at the networking event to be held at NAFF on 27 July. They will be pitching their projects for cash prizes for production expenses and post-production assistance. The projects will also be up for selection for the It Project and the Nordic Genre Invasion. Projects that win the awards will be announced on 28 July at the B.I.G Closing Ceremony and NAFF Awards Ceremony. NAFF is a key program of B.I.G or BIFAN Industry Gathering, Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival's (BIFAN) newly developed and expanded industry program that was launched at Cannes last month and now houses NAFF. The 20th edition of BIFAN will take place from 21 to 31 July, while B.I.G runs from 22 to 28 July and NAFF from 25-28 July. (Photo source: "Dawn Raid: The Hands That Rattled The Queen's" Facebook)
