14 Mar – The main cast and filmmakers of the Asian omnibus film co-production project "Asian Three-Fold Mirror" has just been announced. Japan Foundation Asia Center has teamed up with Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) for this project which comprises of three Asian directors; Brillante Mendoza (Philippines), Isao Yukisada (Japan) and Sotho Kulikar (Cambodia) contributing their own short features to the film. Filipino actor Lou Veloso will be in Brillante Ma. Mendoza's episode, Japanese director Isao Yukisada will have fellow countrymen Masahiko Tsugawa and Masatoshi Nagase along with Malaysian actress Sharifah Amani in his episode, while Japanese actor Masaya Kato and Cambodian actress Chumvan Sodhachivy will be appearing in the episode by Sotho Kulikar of Cambodia.
The project's mission is to deepen interactions between neighboring countries within Asia, also elevating cultural understanding and providing opportunities for people to reflect on their identity and way of life as individuals in Asia. The main character of each story is an Asian living in a different Asian country, reflecting society and culture in Asia today seen from three different angles, highlighting each director's unique vision with principal photography set for Japan, the Philippines, Cambodia and Malaysia from February to April of 2016. The film will soon be premiering at the 29th edition of the Tokyo International Film Festival which will take place from October 25 to November 3 of 2016. It will later be shown on the international film festival circuit.
