19 Oct – A movie based on Malaysia's very own badminton hero Lee Chong Wei is currently in the making, set to be helmed by "Kepong Gangster" director, Teng Bee. Titled as "Rise of the Legend", the film will chronicle the life story of the badminton legend and his successful journey into becoming a champion and a global sports icon. The movie will be produced by CB Pictures on a budget of RM4.5 million and is set to hit the screen in 2018, New Straits Times reports. "Three years ago, we came up with a concept about making a biopic about Lee. And it took us three years to finally get his approval," said the director. For now, it is still not known as to who will be taking on the role of the badminton champion, but Teng said that a nationwide audition will be held to search for the right candidate. It is also not confirmed whether Lee himself would appear in the film. Four years ago, Yusof Haslam's son Shafiq Yusof expressed interest in creating a Lee Chong Wei biopic, but the plan never went through. (Photo source: FourthOfficial.com)
