10 Jun – In 2017, Malaysia is set to host its first ever international film festival and awards ceremony in the country. Malaysia International Film Festival and Malaysia Golden Global Awards (MGGA) will take place in the first quarter of next year. The first part of the inaugural event, which is the film festival section, is going to run from February to March while the second part, the awards ceremony, is going to be the finale of the whole event. MGGA is established in 2016, a combined effort by Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, with assistance from CEO of Taiwan Golden Horse Awards, Wen Tien Hsiang.
According to its official Facebook page, MGGA aims to "provide opportunities and an accessible platform for movie producers at a local and international level to champion new creative talents". MGGA will also promote Malaysia and international film productions, as it rewards excellent film and filmmakers, as well as introduce Malaysia's film, art and culture to the world. Malaysia International Film Festival will be taking place at NU Sentral Kuala Lumpur from 24 February to 4 March 2017. Malaysia Golden Global Awards Night, meanwhile, will be held at the Arena of Stars Genting Highlands on 5 March 2017. (Photo source: FINAS' Facebook)
