Moviegoers faint after watching "Raw"

The audience is unable to handle the amount of gore in the film.

16 Sep – A couple of moviegoers have reportedly fainted after watching a special midnight screening of the cannibal film, "Raw", at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Paramedics were called to the venue to treat a number of audience members who had passed out as they allegedly couldn't handle the level of gore and horror portrayed in the film.

"An ambulance had to be called to the scene as the film became too much for a couple patrons," said Ryan Werner, who is handling the film's marketing, to The Hollywood Reporter.

Written and directed by Julia Ducournau, "Raw" is a French-Belgian film about a young vegetarian college student who becomes a cannibal after being forced to eat raw rabbit liver at a carnivorous hazing ritual.

The film was screened in the International Critics' Week section at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival where it won the FIPRESCI Prize.
