National athletes to cameo in local movie

National athletes Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying.

7 Oct – Looks like Malaysia's badminton champs – mixed doubles Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying, as well as one half of the men's double Goh V Shem – now have a new career as movie stars.

The national athletes have been revealed to be part of the cast in upcoming Chinese movie, "Goodbye Mr. Loser".

Liu Ying and Peng Soon will cameo as a couple and V Shem as the cousin of one of the main characters in the movie.

Liu Ying, who is a part-time model, is excited to be given the chance to develop her acting skills.

"Peng Soon, V Shem and I are given the chance to act, we're very excited. In acting, it's a challenge to really be immersed in the characters, but being an athlete is even harder," said the badminton player to Astro Awani.

She also stated that acting and modelling are just her part-time jobs as her priority is her badminton career.

Goh V Shem has not thought of making acting his full-time career.

The three athletes were chosen to be part of the movie following their silver wins at this year's Olympics in Rio.

On the other hand, V Shem admits that being an actor is harder than being a badminton athlete. However, he was still excited for the new and interesting experience of filming for three hours despite facing some difficulty in playing his character.

"Goodbye Mr. Loser" is set to be screened in cinemas on Chinese New Year next year.
