Six renowned filmmakers involved with "Karya 12"


"Karya 12" will pair six filmmakers with six students who would then become future filmmakers.

15 Apr – Six renowned Malaysian filmmakers will be participating in the "Karya 12" reality TV program, an initiative by Astro Citra to aid the local film industry.

The six filmmakers are Yusry Abdul Halim, Osman Ali, Sabri Yunus, Bernard Chauly, Michael Ang and Ghaz Abu Bakar.

All of them would be mentoring six college and university students from the school of arts whom have been carefully selected since last January.

"It is a campaign designed to be a stepping stone for the local film industry which is growing more competitive. InsyaAllah, we would try to make this a yearly event," said the Vice President of the Malay Language Business at Astro, Khairul Anwar Salleh as reported by BH Online.

Khairul said that the end product from "Karya 12" will be seen in three to five years' time when the next generation of filmmakers whom are mentored by their respective renowned filmmakers are ready.

In "Karya 12", the six filmmakers would need to direct a telefilm and guide their protégés as they also work on their own projects.

"Karya 12" is also set to feature actors Lisa Surihani, Nur Fazura, Remy Ishak, Fathia Latiff, Bront Palarae, Fizz Fairuz, Nora Danish, Kamal Adli and more.

The "Karya 12" reality TV program will air 30 April 2016 onwards every Saturday and Sunday at 10pm on Astro Citra and Astro Mustika HD.
