"Star Wars" actor Jake Lloyd diagnosed with schizophrenia

Jake Lloyd is best known for playing young Anakin Skywalker.

12 Apr – After being behind bars for 10 months, former actor Jake Lloyd has recently been moved from jail to a psychiatric facility.

The actor was diagnosed with schizophrenia, according to TMZ, prompting the move from a jail cell to a hospital room instead.

27-year-old Lloyd, best known for portraying young Anakin Skywalker in 1999's "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace", was arrested in June last year following reckless driving which led to a high-speed car chase with the police in South Carolina.

Prior to his arrest, he had another police run-in when he attacked his own mother in March that same year.

However, his mother refused to press charges, revealing that the actor was suffering from schizophrenia – he had started showing signs of it at the age of 19 – and was off his medications at the time of the attack.

Lloyd started acting since 1996 and was last seen in 2005's "Madison".
