14 Nov – After the successes of small to big screen adaptations such as "Goosebumps" and "It", another horror series from the '90s is looking to tap into the same market. "Are You Afraid of the Dark" is getting its own Hollywood treatment, according to Variety, with "It" writer Gary Dauberman set to pen the script. The anthology series created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel, which originally ran from 1992 to 1996 before being rebooted for one season in 1999, revolves around the Midnight Society, a group of kids who would sit around a campfire telling various scary tales based on fairytales and urban legends.
There is no word yet on who will be directing and starring in the movie, only that Dauberman is confirmed to write while Matt Kaplan ("The Lazarus Effect") will be producing. This will be the second Nickelodeon TV series to movie adaptation from Paramount Players, who last month revealed that it is working on a live-action "Dora the Explorer" with Michael Bay on board as producer. The movie version of "Are You Afraid of the Dark" should be in good hands since Dauberman's writing credits include this year's horror hits "It" and "Annabelle: Creation" as well as the upcoming sequel "It: Chapter Two" and fellow "The Conjuring" spinoff, "The Nun".
