31 Mar – Look out world, Joss Whedon is crossing enemy lines to direct a movie featuring DC superhero, Batgirl! The "Avengers" director is close to sealing the deal with Warner Bros. to helm the solo Batgirl movie, which currently has no title yet, according to Variety. You can start freaking out now. And who wouldn't be freaking out over this? The creator of strong characters, who happen to be female like Buffy Summers from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", Zoe from "Firefly" and pretty much every female character in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D", is going to be directing a movie focused on a female superhero. So you know it's going to be nothing short of epic! Everyone can't wait to see Whedon bring his unique combination of humour and character development into the DC Extended Universe. After the grim and colour-drained "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", the DCEU is in dire need of more life and colour and Whedon is perfect for the job.
So far, Warner Bros.' DCEU has released three movies, "Man of Steel" in 2013, and "Batman v Superman" and "Suicide Squad" in 2016. Two more movies are set to be released this year, "Wonder Woman" and "Justice League", with at least five more already confirmed and in the works: "Aquaman", a "Suicide Squad" sequel and a spin-off, "The Batman" and "Shazam". This Batgirl movie is going to be about Barbara Gordon, the Batgirl introduced in 1967. She is the book-smart daughter of the police commissioner of Gotham City, James Gordon, who fights crime while dealing with a perpetually growling caped crusader. Barbara has always been one of the most popular superheroes in the world, even after she dropped the title of Batgirl, after joker left her paralysed in "Batman: The Killing Joke", and became the hacker and superhero informant, Oracle. While a lot of us are surprised of Whedon suddenly changing sides to DC, especially after they scrapped his script for "Wonder Woman" back in the early 2000s, we are not at all unhappy. In fact, everyone is very much looking forward to what Whedon's Batgirl will be like. (We'll be happy as long as she doesn't have to wear the same suit from "Batman & Robin".)
