5 Oct – Maybe Tyrese Gibson's concern is not so baseless after all. Announced earlier today through their official Twitter and Instagram, "Fast and Furious 9" has officially been delayed and will only open in North America on 10 April 2020. This marks a one year delay from the original schedule of 19 April 2019 that was previously shared by Vin Diesel back in 2016. While no reason has been disclosed for the shift, many are quick to speculate that it might be caused by the rumoured spinoff movie featuring the characters of Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Though, the fact that the ninth instalment is still without a director could also contribute to the delay. An Instagram feud between co-star Tyrese Gibson and Dwayne Johnson took place last month, with Gibson pleading Johnson not to move on with the spinoff idea in fear of delaying the main franchise after The Rock posted a cryptic photo of what some believed to be the spinoff project's contract. However, as of now the studio has not confirmed any development for the spinoff movie. After its launch in 2001, the "Fast and Furious" franchise has grossed over USD5 billion worldwide with "Furious 7" being the top performer, taking in USD1.5 billion globally.
