Latin American Film Festival returns to cinemas

13 Oct – The Latin American Film Festival (LAFF) has been around in Malaysia for 16 years now, but 2017 will finally mark its return to the big screen.

With various venues for its prior editions and its last cinema venue back in 2010, LAFF is set to return to Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) this November with a slate of 12 movies screened for free.

The best of Latin America cinema will hail from: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, Costa Rica and Venezuela, while South Africa has been invited as the guest country this year.

With many genres lined up for this year's festival, among the highlights is Venezuela's "The House At The End Of Time", a horror movie that is the highest grossing of the genre in the history of Venezuela. The movie has also been picked up by New Line Cinema to produce a Hollywood remake.

Brazil's "The Man From The Future" is also one to look out for as the sci-fi romance stars "Narcos" star Wagner Moura as a man who gets to travel back in time to guide his younger self.

Fans of the award winning French film, "Intouchables", will get to see the Argentinian remake of the film, "Inseparables" revolving around the heartwarming relationship between a quadriplegic and his caretaker.

"Since launching the festival, it has gotten better and more popular every year," said HE Manuel Balaguer Salas, Ambassador of Argentina to Malaysia at launch event held at GSC Mid Valley, yesterday.

"The festival will take place exclusively at GSC Pavilion KL, in one of the biggest shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur, so we are expecting a very high attendance."

The 16th edition of the Latin American Film Festival is organised by the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC) and is supported by Cinema Online as the official media partner.

The festival will be held at GSC Pavilion KL from 1 to 8 November. Each film will be shown with English subtitles and admission is free with more details on ticket redemption to be revealed soon.
