10 Nov – The full cast line-up for the upcoming Malaysian badminton legend Dato Lee Chong Wei's biopic, aptly titled "Lee Chong Wei", has been unveiled. The movie which previously carried the production title "Rise of the Legend", had completed its filming in August 2017 and is set to be released during the first quarter of 2018. The full cast was introduced yesterday at the press conference event of the movie which was graced by the sportsman himself. Datuk Rosyam Nor is set to play as Chong Wei's former coach Misbun Sidek, while Malaysian actress Yeo Yann Yann and Singaporean actor Mark Lee will portray Chong Wei's parents. Newcomers Jake Eng and Tosh Chan will play the child and teen versions of Chong Wei respectively, while Ashley Hua will play Chong Wei's love interest Wong Mew Choo.
Revealing to the media and guests, Chong Wei said that he too has a small part in the movie. "I only shot a small part in this film and then I realised that shooting a film is really hard. I seriously rather go for training!," the Olympic silver medallist joked.
The badminton hero also said that he didn't have much involvement with the film production because he has very high confidence in director Teng Bee's work. "I'm very excited for this film. Never in my life have I thought that my life story would be turned into a movie. So I'd like to thank my family and everyone who have supported me," he added. "Lee Chong Wei" director Teng Bee is known for his films "Kepong Gangster" and "Kepong Gangster 2". The upcoming movie also stars Freddie Wong, Bernard Hiew, Uriah See, and Dato' Norman Pang.
