16 Aug – Lionsgate has announced its plan for a South Korean theme park with areas devoted to some of its flagship franchises. The theme park, aptly-named Lionsgate Movie World, will be developed through the partnership with Landing Jeju Development Co. Ltd., as reported by Variety. To be located at Jeju Shinhwa World, the park, which is expected to boast 1.3 million square feet, will be Lionsgate's first branded outdoor theme park. Some of the movies from the entertainment company that will be featured are "Hunger Games", "Twilight" and "Now You See Me", as well as its upcoming "Robin Hood" movie. Seven movie zones will be developed with each themed around a specific Lionsgate property, to give visitors the experience of being in an actual movie scenes through state-of-the-art rides and reproduced streets and towns. Each zone will also feature themed restaurant, cafes, souvenir shops and entertainment performances. Scheduled for opening in 2019, the Lionsgate Movie World will be the centrepiece of the Jeju Shinhwa World resort, which houses Four Seasons, Marriott and Somerset hotels, condominiums, villas and high-end retail for international and K-fashion brands. Jeju Shinhwa World resort also includes a waterpark, theme parks, a destination spa, an international-style casino and a K-pop entertainment centre.
