Malaysian movies make Korean premiere at BIFAN

"Interchange" (top) and "Ola Bola" are among the five Malaysian movies picked for this year's BIFAN.

3 Jul – A total of five Malaysian titles will be making their way to South Korea this month for the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN).

Now in its 21st edition, BIFAN will be the stage where four out of the five selected Malaysian movies will be making their Korean premieres.

Chiu Keng Guan's "Ola Bola", Syamsul Yusof's "Munafik" (listed by its English title, "Hypocrisy"), Nizam Razak's "BoBoiBoy: The Movie" and Upi Avianto's "My Stupid Boss" (a Malaysia-Indonesia production starring the likes of Bront Palarae, Reza Rahadian, Bunga Citra Lestari and Atikah Suhaime) are set to be featured under the Best of Asia segment of the film festival.

All the aforementioned movies will be screening for the first time in the country, with the exception of the animated film, "BoBoiBoy: The Movie", which premiered in Korean cinemas earlier in March this year.

Also making its debut in Korea via BIFAN is Dan Said's "Interchange", another Malaysia-Indonesia collaborative effort, starring some of the two countries' biggest names in the film industry.

The Shaheizy Sam, Nicholas Saputra, Iedil Putra and Prisia Nasution-starrer will be screened under World Fantastic Blue, which introduces 39 international films of the sci-fi, fantasy, comedy, and drama genres. It is one of the sections under this year's World Fantastic Cinema, which has been split into Blue and Red, the latter focusing more on "blood-spattering action, creepy horror, and heart-pumping thriller films".

The 21st Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) is taking place from 13 to 23 July 2017.
