"Star Wars" getting a funny spoof from "Scary Movie" guys

"Star Wars" is getting spoofed by the "Scary Movie" team.

11 Feb – The funny duo behind some of the most successful spoof movies since the turn of the century is now eyeing something big – as big as the galaxy – for their next project.

Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have undertaken the task of parodying popular sci-fi franchise "Star Wars", according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The title of the parody movie already sounds promising: "Star Worlds Episode XXXIVE=MC2: The Force Awakens the Last Jedi Who Went Rogue".

The American-Canadian team will be writing and directing the "Star Wars" spoof, with the filming expected to begin during fall this year.

No word yet on who will be starring and when the movie will be released.

Before "Star Wars", Friedberg and Seltzer, who is most known for the "Scary Movie" franchise, have spoofed other big franchises such as "Twilight" ("Vampires Suck"), "The Hunger Games" ("The Starving Games") and "Fast and Furious" ("Superfast!").

Despite getting bad rap for their parody works, which garnered quite a number of Razzie nominations, the duo still enjoys success from the box office collection of their spoofs. Though the numbers have gone down over the years, the writing-directing team used to pull in more than USD80 million against a USD20 million budget for movies like "Date Movie", "Epic Movie", "Meet the Spartans" and "Vampires Suck".

Their more recent works since 2013's "The Starving Games" have not been performing well at the box office. It remains to be seen whether their upcoming "Star Wars" spoof as well as the 2017 "Taken" spoof, "Who the F#@K Took My Daughter", will fare better.

Before catching the parody version, catch the authentic "Star Wars" instalment, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", in cinemas this December.
