Veteran actor Om Puri passes away at 66

6 Jan – Indian actor Om Puri was revealed to have passed away this morning after suffering a heart attack at his home.

The actor's death was confirmed by filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, The Times of India reported.

"Sad [and] shocked to know that versatile actor Om Puri jee has expired due to heart attack early morning today," Pandit shared on Twitter.

It was reported that the late actor's driver discovered something was amiss when the doorbell went unanswered at Puri's residence.

He was 66.

Puri first entered the acting industry in 1976, making his debut in Marathi movie "Ghashiram Kotwal". He had appeared in numerous Indian, British and Hollywood productions since. Some of his works in recent years include "Bajrangi Bhaijaan", "Ghayal Once Again", "The Reluctant Fundamentalist" and "The Hundred-Foot Journey".

He will be seen in a posthumous role in this year's British-Indian historical drama film, "Viceroy's House".
