"Doctor Strange" writers have a villain in mind for sequel

Doctor Strange might need to face Nightmare if a "Doctor Strange" sequel is greenlit.

2 Apr – As Marvel Studios gears up for their juggernaut movie "Avengers: Infinity War" and its sequel, a character from the movie might need to square off with a new villain immediately when he returns to his own standalone movie.

"Doctor Strange" writers C. Robert Cargill and Scott Derrickson already have plans to include the fictional villain Nightmare as Doctor Strange's counterpart, if a "Doctor Strange" sequel was ever to be greenlit by Marvel Studios.

According to MovieWeb, Cargill and Derrickson are committed to bringing the demonic character to the sequel though the movie is not yet confirmed by the studio.

Nightmare is a demon ruler of the Dream Dimension who possesses the ability to draw power from people's dreams.

Since the movie's release, a "Doctor Strange" sequel has been an on-off project for Marvel Studios; first stating that Derrickson will return as director, but then it was excluded from Marvel's Phase Four movie line-up.

The only Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies that are currently guaranteed for production are a "Spider-man: Homecoming" sequel and a third "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie, leaving every other planned projects unmanned including the "Doctor Strange" sequel.

As of now, nothing has been confirmed yet for a "Doctor Strange" sequel but its titular character, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, can be seen in this year's "Avengers: Infinity War" and is reportedly playing a significant role in the movie.
