28 Feb – Rumours have it that the fifth instalment of the "Insidious" franchise is already in the works, following the success of the fourth movie, "Insidious: The Last Key". With a collection of USD165 million from around the world, the fourth instalment is currently the most successful in the franchise, topping all of the previous "Insidious" films. According to Bloody Disgusting, the fifth movie might not be another prequel like "Insidious: Chapter 3" and "Insidious: The Last Key".
There has been no confirmation of the staff or cast for the next project so is it not known whether Leigh Whannell will be writing the script again or if Lin Shaye is returning as Elise Rainier.
While the plot has yet to be revealed, a previous remark from producer Jason Blum could indicate the next step in the series: a crossover between the "Insidious" franchise and another Blumhouse Productions horror series, "Sinister". This means the possibility of Elise Rainier going into The Further to go up against the evil deity Bughuul, who was last seen in 2015's "Sinister 2". "Insidious: The Last Key" was previously touted as the final movie in the "Insidious" series but with the franchise racking up USD536.6 million worldwide, it's safe to assume there will be more "Insidious" movies down the road.
