28 Sep – About a month after Michelle Yeoh's Mythical Films struck a first-look deal with SK Global Entertainment's Ivanhoe Pictures, Yeoh is now working with the company to produce a movie based on the book "Billion Dollar Whale: The Man Who Fooled Wall Street, Hollywood, and the World". "Tom and Bradley have crafted a thoroughly compelling telling of this unbelievable story," said SK Global president John Penotti, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. "While certainly a daring work of investigative journalism, the narrative thread and eclectic characters that they so diligently chronicle make the book read like a thrilling and engrossing novel." Written by Tom Wright and Bradley Hope, the book follows the 1MDB scandal in Malaysia and focuses on Jho Low, a financer who allegedly masterminded the heist and remains an international fugitive as authorities from Malaysia, Singapore, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and the U.S. Department of Justice continue investigating the theft, which is estimated at USD5 billion dollar. Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio was also ensnared in the scandal, after Jho Low befriended the actor and even earned himself special credits in DiCaprio's 2013 movie "The Wolf of Wall Street". Red Granite Pictures, which produced the movie, was later sued in regards to allegations that USD155 million was diverted from 1MDB to help finance it. SK Global Entertainment is the merged entity of Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and Ivanhoe Pictures, the latter also produced the global hit "Crazy Rich Asians", in which Yeoh starred as the strict and opulent mother Eleanor.
