12 Dec – Over the years in cinemas we've had huge screens, LED screens, motion seats, advancements in surround sound and more.

So what else has the local cinema industry to offer audiences come 2019?

Via a partnership between Malaysian cinema exhibitor Golden Screen Cinemas and South Korea's CJ 4DPLEX, ScreenX, a panoramic, 270-degree screen theatre will be introduced at GSC 1 Utama in early 2019.

The multi-projection cinema technology that projects films on three sides of a cinema theatre, will also be brought to two more additional GSC locations in 2020.

ScreenX 'extends' the borders of a typical movie screen by expanding the center of the screen image to the side walls (left and right), surrounding audiences with 270-degree imagery as if they are inside a movie.

"After launching Malaysia's first 4DX auditorium at GSC Paradigm JB, we are excited to once again bring an all-new offering to movie-goers with ScreenX," said Koh Mei Lee, Chief Executive Officer, Golden Screen Cinemas.

"This new technology is a reaffirmation of our commitment to innovation and we are confident that audiences will be even more engaged and immersed at the movies, thanks to this technology's capabilities to deliver visually-stunning cinema experiences."

That's not all, those outside of Johor who have been wanting to experience the 4DX motion seats first launched at GSC Paradigm JB, will now get a chance to do so, as a second 4DX theatre will also be arriving at the very same GSC 1 Utama by the end of December this year.

GSC cinemas at IOI City Mall, Putrajaya as well as Southkey, Johor Bahru will be next to get the 4DX theatres.

To date, ScreenX has been installed in 185 screens around the world, including 85 screens in South Korea; 61 screens in China; 11 in the United States; 6 in England; 4 in Turkey; 4 in Japan; 3 in Switzerland; 2 in France; 2 in Vietnam and 1 in Spain, Hungary, UAE, Kuwait, Thailand, Indonesia, and Israel.
