Watch football-themed movies for free at Hungarian Film Fiesta

Watch a documentary about the legendary Ferenc Puskas for free this 7 to 10 June!

4 Jun – The 21st FIFA World Cup 2018 is almost upon us and it couldn't be a more perfect time for the Hungarian Film Fiesta to make its debut in Malaysia with a football themed lineup.

From 7 to 10 June, there will be a total of four movies screened exclusively at GSC Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, with the movie selections curated especially to commemorate the 65th year anniversary of the football match between Hungary and England back in November 1953, where Hungary won 6-3 and the game became known the 'Match of the Century'.

While Hungary has always participated in the annual European Union Film Festival in Malaysia, this would be the first time ever that the embassy has decided to venture out on their own to showcase Hungarian films.

There will be two documentary and two comedy films screened. They are:

"Puskas Hungary", a film about the life of Ferenc Puskas, the legendary striker of the Hungarian national team in the 1950s who also had a successful career at Real Madrid which eventually led FIFA to give out an annual award for the most spectacular goal of the season in his name.

"Barca's Untold Legends" is another documentary about legendary Hungarian football players like Laszlo Kubala, Sandor Kocsis and more, who used to be the stars of FC Barcelona six decades ago.

"6:3 A.K.A. Past Plays Itself" is a fiction movie based on the real-life events surrounding the "Match of the Century" between Hungary and England.

Last but not least, "Brazils" is a comedy film that sees a football tournament in a small village stirring up all kinds of emotions when the gypsy minority take part in the local football championship.

Don't miss these movies if you call yourself a football fan!

"Malaysians are just as passionate about football as their Hungarian counterparts. For this reason, I believe that introducing the rich traditions and glorious history of Hungarian football to the Malaysian audience will create better understanding and closer people-to-people ties between our countries. We believe that our event can also contribute to getting football fans in Malaysia into the World Cup mood," said H.E. Atilla Kali, Ambassador of Hungary to Malaysia during the press conference to announce the event.

Tickets to watch the movies screening for the Hungarian Film Fiesta can be redeemed for FREE from GSC Pavilion KL's ticketing counter from 11AM, 31 May onwards, at first come first served basis.

The Hungarian Film Fiesta will run from 7 to 10 June at GSC Pavilion KL and is organised by the Embassy of Hungary in Kuala Lumpur and Golden Screen Cinemas with support from Cinema Online.
