7 Jan – Another new year, another new edition of the Golden Globes. The 76th edition of the prestigious awards ceremony has wrapped up at Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, hosted by Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg. While not the biggest winner of the night (this honour goes to "Green Book"), Queen biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody" still walked away with two major wins. Leading man Rami Malek won the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama, and the movie itself won the accolade for Best Motion Picture, Drama. Social media is, of course, abuzz with the fact that director Bryan Singer's name – who was replaced by Dexter Fletcher following his sexual assault accusation – was not mentioned in either acceptance speech. Meanwhile, "Green Book" not only won Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, its star Mahershala Ali wins Best Supporting Actor and its screenwriters Nick Vallelonga, Brian Currie and Peter Farrelly nabbed Best Screenplay.
Fans might be disappointed that "A Star Is Born" did not win Best Picture but it did take home the Best Original Song award with the Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper duet, "Shallow". Interestingly, the 1976 version of the movie also won the same award at the 34th Golden Globes. Unfortunately, another fan favourite, "Black Panther", failed to sink its claws into any accolades. Another superhero movie, however, managed to make a mark with its Best Motion Picture, Animated win. The movie being none other than "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse".
