24 Sep – Quick, when someone says Jonah Hill is a Batman supervillain, which supervillain do you think of first? If you say The Penguin, you're not in the minority, however you might be wrong. It was first reported by Deadline that the 35-year-old is in talks to join Robert Pattinson in the Matt Reeves-helmed, "The Batman". While it was only revealed that he was being eyed for a villain role, fans began to speculate that he would play The Penguin. The live-action version of the character was last portrayed by Danny DeVito in 1992's "Batman Returns", though he was referenced by Batfleck in 2017's "Justice League". However, Collider followed up the news by stating that Hill would, in fact, play The Riddler.
Reportedly, it's because they've always heard that the character would be the first villain to be cast, and that Hill looks up to Jim Carrey, who portrayed Riddler in 1995's "Batman Forever". Another actor who is also in talks for a role in the movie, though this one is no mystery as it is revealed as Commissioner James Gordon, is "Westworld" star Jeffery Wright, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Meanwhile, Variety is reporting that production on the movie could begin in either late 2019 or early 2020. Whether Hill is The Riddler or The Penguin, we'll find out when "The Batman" opens in North American cinemas on 25 June 2021.
