"Aladdin" star joins Charlize Theron in comic book-based action thriller

Marwan Kenzari can currently be seen on the big screen as Jafar in "Aladdin".

29 May – Dutch actor Marwan Kenzari doesn't need a magic lamp to make his Hollywood wishes come true, though not that he needed much help with that.

Another movie coming up for the actor is action thriller "The Old Guard", according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Kenzari will be playing a man who was once a Moor warrior. His character's name was not revealed but the character's name, in the comic book series bearing the same title that the movie is being adapted from, is called Joe.

He is joining a cast led by Charlize Theron, who stars as Andromache of Scythia or Andy, a mercenary trapped in an immortality without explanation. She and the group of fellow mercenaries that she leads discover that keeping their immortality a secret in 21st century is hard, especially when a nefarious organisation is capturing their undying actions on camera.

Aside from Kenzari and Theron, the only other confirmed cast member at the moment is Kiki Layne.

There is no release date set yet but it is known that Gina Prince-Bythewood will be directing the feature film adaptation of the comic book by author Greg Rucka and artist Leandro Fernandez.

In the meantime, Kenzari can be seen portraying the villainous Jafar in the live-action adaptation of "Aladdin". Theron also has several movies lined up this year, including "Long Shot", "The Addams Family" and "Fair and Balanced".
