Andy Lau celebrates 59th birthday online

28 Sep – With the pandemic disrupting not only normal life but the financial and economic situations of people around the world, it was only natural for Andy Lau's wish on his birthday to be for the situation to improve soon.

As reported on Mingpao, the Cantopop King who held a special event online on 27 September to celebrate his 59th birthday, said as much amid his performance for his many fans - of songs that include, "Only You in My Heart", "Days of Walking Together", and "Say I Love You Again".

"2020 is a very special year. There have been many, many different things that had happened for the past few months. I have a lot of feelings this year. My birthday wish this year is for the pandemic to stop soon, and that there will be no more natural disasters. I hope that each of us will be happy and healthy. This is my biggest wish this year! After the pandemic, hopefully we can meet more often and everything will return to normal!" he said.

Andy revealed that throughout the restriction period, he had been busy managing his company and going to the recording studio. He then proceeded to share his new song, "Continue to be Beautiful", but then awkwardly laughed - saying that it was the first time that he performed the song live.

"If I have a chance, I will find time to sing this song much better with all of you. Hopefully it will be a song that everybody will hum after dinner," he said.

Andy also answered several questions from fans, including one who asked if he will ever hold a large-scale event in the future.

"I really want to do it, but we all have to unite. Hopefully, once the pandemic is over, we can do it - be it a performance or a fan meet. What I miss most is taking photos with 3,000 people a day. The performance is just temporarily postponed and will be arranged after the pandemic is over," he said.
