4 Aug – It's no well-guarded secret that everyone is waiting for a sequel to "The Old Guard" to be confirmed. From the fans to the cast members themselves, everyone wants to see a follow-up to the Charlize Theron-starrer. "There have been discussions, nothing is confirmed, and I don't think there will be a decision made as to whether or not another one is in the offering for a while yet," was what writer Greg Rucka has to say when asked regarding it by DiscussingFilm. "The decision to make another one is going to be made by people who are far outside of my lane. If they decide to do another one, I am absolutely there for it," he added. The film adaptation, starring Theron in her critically acclaimed role as Andy, is adapted from Rucka's comic book of the same name and revolves around a group of immortal mercenaries. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the star-studded cast also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kiki Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Matthias Schoenaerts, Harry Melling, Luca Marinelli, and Van Veronica Ngo. Though it is uncertain who will be returning if Netflix were to green light the sequel, it's highly likely that Theron would reprise her role, considering that she did say during her appearance on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" that she would like to explore more of Andy's relationship with Ngo's Quynh. "The Old Guard" is Theron's only film release of the year, she will be seen playing the baddie again in the ninth instalment of the "Fast and Furious" franchise but this will be only released next year, having been postponed from its original 2020 release date due to the pandemic.
